Why do students drop out?

Most people think that students drop out of school because they get pregnant, they get tired of going to school everyday, and they might be pressured from others, but the main reason is that they don't have enough support from family members. The reason having support from your family is important is because when somebody doesn't have strong support from family members, they think that that it doesn't really matter what happens because they don't think anybody is going to care. Some teenagers think that by just dropping out and getting a job that isn't very good, they will be fine and be able to live off the little money they are going to be making. But in order to get a good job that you can support yourself with, you should at least finish high school and probably get into a decent college. That way you will get a good job and can support a family if you choose to have one later on when your ready to. If the problem happened where you got pregnant, you should figure out a way to be able to still finish up high school because dropping out isn't worth it at al when most people have somebody to help raise the baby.
One of the other reasons teenagers drop out could be that they fall way behind in school. This could be from several different things like they get into drugs and alcohol, they have problems at home, they get tired of going to school everyday, or maybe they just think that they can make it without school. If a student starts slacking off and not turning work in, or forgetting to study and failing homework and tests, they are eventually going to fall behind. Then they are going to start to think that they wont catch up so they should just drop out, or they might not even try to get caught up or look for help. Or if they have problems at home, they will not be able to get their mind off that problem and they won't be able to focus on their work and classes. Some people just get tired of waking up early, going to school, and sitting through classes all day long, but thats what you have to do, and when they don't do that, they will fall behind on work, and your grades will get lower. A lot of students think they can make it without the rest of high school. Most of those students get pressured into drugs and alcohol. Then they keep doing it because they might think that it's cool or they feel like they can't stop it. And since drugs and alcohol are really bad for you, it could effect your grades in a very bad way.
In conclusion, there are several reasons why people drop out, but the main one is that the teenagers that don't have good support from family members, will most likely drop out. Some other ones could be that they get pressured into doing things they don't want to do, they get pregnant, or they stop caring about school and their work and don't feel like showing up anymore.

  1. This is a really good post with a lot of detail! I really like all of the examples, they are very true and make a lot of sense and could help other students who are having the same problems as you are discussing in your writing(:
